CLASS DESCRIPTION

part 1: MAPPING OUT YOUR BUSINESS 

We explore the definitions and philosophy of the BUSINESS OF ACTING. We answer the questions: “What is the business of acting?! How do I build my business into success?”  Divide the business into the Product, Personal, and Professional realms. Discover why some actors “fail” and others “succeed”. Map out an accountability system within the actor’s business. Research the “branding” of the product and how to create a product pitch. Build relationships in the industry with casting, production, and representation. Set the beginning’s of the BUSINESS PLAN.

By the end of the part, the actor will know how to create a business plan and pitch a product.

 

PART 2: PLANNING YOUR FUTURE 

We explore how to create a FIVE YEAR PLAN for success in the acting industry. We answer the questions: “What should I do to be successful?! How do I create forward momentum and not define a MISSION STATEMENT based on the product. Set goals. Draw a direct line from today to the goal?    Create a step-by-step approach to BUILD THE FUTURE. Enlist your management team. Develop the BUSINESS PLAN into a clear and specific daily/weekly/monthly activities to ENSURE SUCCESS.

PART 3: MARKETING YOUR PRODUCT 

We explore MARKETING THE PRODUCT based on your business plan…everything from head shots and demo reels, to websites and resumes, iMDB to Facebook. We answer the questions:

“What do I do to teach casting and the world that I can act?! How do I get my name out there?!”

Divide marketing into: marketing materials, on-line presence, and hard publicity. Brand all marketing materials based on the product. Define the clear message. Create material. Educate your marketing team (agent, manager, publicist). Invent a marketing plan that pushes the five year plan. Get YOUR PRODUCT TO MARKET.

 

PART 4: DEVELOPING A PROJECT 

We explore how to DEVELOP A PROJECT to push forward the marketing, business plan, and product of the business to jump start the actor’s career….everything from self-tapes, to webisodes, short films and full features, community projects, producing workshops, to publicity stunts and much more. We answer the questions: “What do I do now to get working?! How do I efficiently invest my time to get ahead fast in the industry?!”

Define the project that best suits the product.  Think outside of the box.  Develop the project.  Build a team.

Set a project plan.  Recruit others to the cause.  Push the project forward.  Get it working for you so that ACTORS will PITCH their PRODUCT, PLAN, PUBLICITY…and PROJECT to each other. Some actors will be chosen to PRESENT their work to the class.

Matthew will clearly define for you the tools and perspective required to manage your life as an actor, addressing the delicate, precise balance between business, personal, and artistic sides of your career and helping you to identify how to invest your time in the most beneficial constructive fashion.
